Water Baby

All week long Millie and I have been trying to make it the pool, but the weather had a different agenda. We walked to the pool this afternoon thinking that the rain might take a break. Just as we arrived, the pool had closed. As we(I) walked somberly back home, I had an idea! Eureka! We had our swimsuits on and all we needed was water, so I filled up the bathtub and voila!, we had a pool. Millie perked right up when she heard the water running (a familiar sound at bath time but it was the middle of the afternoon so I think she was a little confused). Together we kicked and splashed around until her little fingers and toes were all pruned up. She just loved it! (I've said it once, and I'll say it again. I cannot wait until next Summer when she's big enough to go to the beach with us. Oh man, we'll be there all the time.)

I almost wish we would have done this sooner. I'm glad we did it now though, especially now that she can sit up. I definitely recommend this idea to anyone with a baby. Borrow one if you have to!

She's sitting!

Millie is sitting up on her own. I can't say that every time she sits she won't tumble over because it has happened a lot today, but she's making progress. She's good for about 5 seconds and then, there she goes.

Go Gamecocks!

While Matt is off at the first USC game of the season, I thought Millie and I would join in on the fun! We've been cheering all morning, "Gooooo Gamecocks." And then when USF plays their first game (I believe on Saturday), we'll be cheering, " Gooooo Bulls!" Millie's got a special outfit just for those games :) You'll just have to wait and see...

I think the socks add a little girly flair, don't you?

Weekend Wow in Columbia

I'm writing this post while sitting in amazement as Matt and I watch the Olympics' closing ceremony. It's incredible!

Almost as incredible as our relaxing weekend in Columbia at Mia and Granddaddy's house. We've discovered that Millie likes the water. She spent over 1.5 hours in the pool this afternoon.

I'm realizing the Millie has become really attached to me. Go figure! We spend all friggin' day together every single day. I'm her best friend, her livelihood, her pacifier, et al. In one sense it is rather self-gratifying but in another, she's got to lighten up and socialize. And, then of course, the fact that she's only 5 months old makes it really hard to tell if this is a phase or the beginning of a long road ahead. I just hate for her to cry everytime I'm not or Matt's not holding her. Hmm, maybe I need to lighten up and stop worrying about it. (Ignore my rant, please.)

Anywho, after 24 hours at Mia and Granddaddy's house she really got comfortable. Millie sat on her Granddaddy's tummy and pulled on his leg hair for quite a while which we all thought was hilarious! She took a special liking to Jack, the dog, too. She was happy go lucky and gave smiles all around.
Before we returned home, we visited with our friends, Crystal and Jason and their 3 children. Ellie their oldest, in the picture, had Millie full-on laughing as Ellie danced all around her. She got to meet her new friend, Sadie, who's just 2 months younger than Millie. Before we know it, they'll all be playing dolls together.

Weekend Wow

Just about everyday Millie takes a nap in the car so it was no big deal to see her passed out in the rear view mirror this afternoon. But, it was a big deal to see that she had a firm grip on to a toy in each hand plus her head was propped forward (probably the aftermath of her long stare at her knees and toes). Too cute!

She took one bite of my homemade carrots today. That's it. Just a bite and no more. Couldn't even shove it in. She would adamantly close her mouth and turn her head away from the spoon. So for now, we're practicing eating and swallowing the food mommy and daddy feed her. I'm not sure she realizes that she's supposed to eat what's on the spoon. Eventually she'll catch on, but for now, her responses are lots of entertainment for us.

By the way, I'm pretty sure she's weighing close to 17 lbs and we're moving to bigger diapers this week.

And, that's our "weekend wow."

Oh, Millie

We had some fun taking pictures today. How funny is the first one? I left her on the floor to run to the restroom. She was sitting up and I guess she decided to slide down. She was as content as can be just like that. Then later in the jumperoo... She can't get enough of it. We had to have a mommy-daughter moment. More proof that she looks everything like her daddy and nothing like me, but that's ok because we think daddy's cute.

Mis Casa

The house is finally ready to show. It's not much but we really quite enjoy our cozy dwelling.
I took these pictures today. Nothing like a little rain on this lazy Wednesday. By the way, it feels really good to be LAZY on a WEDNESDAY! I just love my job!
The dining room has plenty of room. Plus all of our furniture blends together to make for a nice large room.
The kitchen is my favorite room in the house. The bar is KEY. Perfect for entertaining and keeping an eye on Millie especially once she starts crawling.

Don't you just love the paint colors?!
Millie's got two closets. Perfect for our little princess. She's having a dandy time in her swing. Umm, oops... just ignore that box cutter on Millie's changing pad. I promise that's not where it goes. :)
This is the master bedroom. I was worried we wouldn't be able to fit both dressers, and Matt would have to change in the guest room, which would really stink. With a little bit of Tetris skills, we finagled it all in. As you can see our bed is in the corner of the room, but its better than poor Matt getting booted into another room to change every morning.

There is a third bedroom we're using for Matt's study/guest room. It's a little smaller than Millie's room and it's painted in a Citadel blue color. We still have some work to do in that room but it's not really at the top of our list of things to do, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you come to visit us soon!

Cereal of Champs!

Millie ate her first meal of rice cereal this afternoon. She took about 15 bites. I think she liked it. See for yourself!

It's so cool that EVERYTHING she does is a "first."

Change of Scenery

Big news!!! Millie just rolled over! From her tummy to her back. I'm trying to get her to do it again so I can get it on film. She's not cooperating thus far but she's waking up from her nap so maybe this time she will... yea!!!

Bath Time with Daddy

Millie always looks so cute just before bath time so we thought we would share her rolls. When Matt gets home from work we usually go for a walk, Matt gives Millie a bath and then off to bed. She got those rosy cheeks from the walk. It was pretty hot yesterday. Gotta love the Summer sun.

She's getting the hang of sitting up these days. She still needs the boppy to hold her steady but I think by month 5, she'll have it down pat. She's not big on lying on her tummy. Needless to say, she's not interested in rolling over either. We're working on it. I'm just pretty impressed with how strong she is. We can pull her up on her feet (not wobbling one bit) when we count to three from a sitting position.

Flying Baby

I love her giggles!

Our weekend at Myrtle Beach

Millie attended her first wedding this weekend in Myrtle Beach. She was great throughout the whole ceremony! Not a peep, however, she and I stayed in the hallway, just in case. We got to spend some much-needed time with Matt's family. Here's a picture with the GREAT grandparents. They are great, too! Millie took a special liking to great-grandma. Her little eyes followed G-grandma everywhere she went.

Thank you to all the grandparents for listening out for her while Matt and I could enjoy a night out with our friends. We stayed out 'til 3am! I would have never done that before Millie was born, but we felt like we really needed to take advantage of all the time we could get!
